![]() You’ll see that the seem in the front comes down in a slight curve. Use the rough/prickly side of the velcro. Glue a piece of velcro over the arch on the back of the minion, about 4 inches long. Make sure to clasp the base of the coat hanger against the cardboard (as seen above) while bending the arm, otherwise it might tear off from the cardboard. Once the glue has dried, you can now bend the arms into the position you like. This adds extra strength and will prevent the dog from being poked. Glue this part of the coat hanger to the cardboard.Ĭut another piece of cardboard and glue it over this visible part of the wire. You should have just curved part hanging down nicely against the cardboard. Working from the inside of the minion, push the straight part of the coat hanger up and through the inside of the minion arm. The straight part should be about as long as the entire arm, but then you need that U-shaped curve to be attached to the inside cardboard with. They should fit nicely, leaving about an inch of space from the end to the middle of the arch.Ĭut a piece of coat hanger and shape as follows. Reattach the flaps on the back of the minion to the cardboard arch. Then we’ll glue each flap of the curved piece to the inside walls of the other cardboard piece. You want to glue the top of this curve to the bottom of the other piece of cardboard in the back of the minion. On the back of the minion, make two cuts as shown below with the dotted lines.ĭo not cut off the flaps entirely though.Ĭut out a piece of cardboard with the following dimensions and shape.Ĭurve this piece of cardboard with brown side facing up, and place into back of the minion. You should also smooth out fabric as you do this so you don’t glue-in any folds or bumps on the outside. Once you have cardboard well-positioned, glue all along the top inside the minion, and to each side with thin layer of glue. Ensure that you keep the non-colored side of the cardboard (the flat brown side) facing outward, as you may be able to see designs on the cardboard through the minion fabric. We’re going to place this piece of cardboard along the inside wall of the minion, with the straight edge upward. Dimensions I’ve drawn on it are in inches. So along the thick inside seam of the goggle back of the minion, place a bit of glue at a top and glue the edges of this circular piece of fabric until it’s all sealed off.Ĭut a piece of cardboard as follows. We’re going to use this piece of fabric to seal off the top of the head, keeping the stuffing up there. ![]() Turn the minion on its head and flip inside out. Once done, it should look like this with a nice smooth edge.Ĭut a round piece of black fabric, just slightly wider than the head of the minion itself. Be careful not to use big globs of glue as it will show on the outside. On the inside of the triangular flaps on the front, spread glue thinly and evenly, and then fold back and glue to inside of minion. Once you made the cut above, hollow out the minion of all stuffing except for the stuffing in the arms and the top of the head (about from the goggle band upwards). We’re going to do a vertical cut starting about 4 inches down from the black band around the head, and down to right in between the legs. We’re not going to cut the triangular flaps off, but instead we will later glue them to the inside to create a soft edging around the hole – and to prevent it from fraying or looking messy.Ĭut off the feet of the minion, just above the point where the blue fabric meets the yellow fabric of the feet. This is what it should look like once you cut along those lines. We’re going to do a pie-cut, so draw lines like this that we’ll cut along. The circumference of the circle you cut should be just bigger than the vertical circumference of your dog’s head. We want to cut a hole in the front of the face just below the minion’s goggles for the dog’s face. Cardboard (not really thick cardboard like from a moving box – more something like cereal box cardboard).Make sure to get the “Kevin” character, and also make sure to buy the overalls for Kevin, which are sold separately. I honestly believe that Slackware’s reputation for being difficult to install is not just undeserved but quite wrong, particularly in the case of servers being installed by system administrators who presumably have a basic level of Linux knowledge. The installation process using the standard Slackware installer was a breeze, as it was with the previous version. ![]() At the time of writing, all software was also fully up to date in security terms, which is always nice. Generally speaking, the overall layout and inbuilt Slackware tools have not changed much, which is a good thing, while the software selections represent a balanced mix of old and new. Slackware 10 has now arrived after much anticipation, and my initial assessment is that the latest offering is even more appropriate as a server platform than the previous one. Above all, I am impressed by Slackware’s stability, clean layout, easy customisation, and excellent package building and management system. I’ve been thinking of doing a Lord of the Rings build for a while and feel like Helm’s Deep would scratch that itch. I will probably take a step back from this project and work on some other things for a bit. I would like to make both of those but the forest is a huge undertaking that will involve lots of world edit, and the quidditch pitch is kinda a boring build. The only big update posts I can make after this are Hagrid’s Hut and the forest, and the quidditch pitch. The four copper pillars around the fountain are meant to be statues of the four founders, but ya know… it’s Minecraft.Īnd that is pretty much it for this project. There are plenty of places for students to sit and admire the plants, lots of different trees and flowers, and a hedge maze. The greenhouses themselves have no interiors and probably never will, just like most of the castle, but I am very happy with the rest of the area. The main aesthetic of the greenhouses was inspired by Victorian era botanical gardens, which I thinks make sense because that era would probably be around the time that Hogwarts would make their greenhouses. ![]() Like what is going on with that gatehouse bit next to this? What is the entire point of this side of the castle? Also, a mini rant: the big bell towers with their huge door make it seem like this is a main entrance to the castle, but it isn’t, which I always found weird. (I know it’s in Scotland, but c'mon, it’s magic) So I made it more whimsical, after a lot of trial and error, and changes in planning which you can catch glimpses of in previous posts. This is supposed to be where all the magical plants are kept, it should be one of the most whimsical parts of the castle. ![]() ![]() This area of the build is where I have done the most changes because I find the canon version of this area just so bland and square. The last part of Hogwarts Castle is now complete. Overall, I am extremely pleased with how this build turned out, and I may be looking back to Middle Earth for more one off builds to make for this blog, *cough* Rivendell *cough*, so maybe check back in several months for that. Unlike the model, my build does not feature any parts of the glittering caves beneath the castle as I just didn’t want to spend my free time building caves. I even made my build a bit like a collectible diorama, with the mountains and landscaping cut off to focus the attention on the castle itself. It is a true work of art, (check out their website for pics of the model and a bunch of other expensive stuff) and was invaluable for this project. The main reference I used for this was the collectible model that Weta Workshop made of the castle. This castle takes center stage in the second movie of the trilogy and is the setting for what is probably the greatest fantasy battle ever put on screen, and I don’t care what those hacks who made Game of Thrones say. The build I chose was the fortress of Helm’s Deep from The Lord of the Rings franchise. Short term became several weeks due to large amounts of Total War Warhammer 3 and having a job, but I got it done eventually. After working solely on long term, multi-part builds, I decided to do my first short term, one post build, for this blog. ![]() ![]() Charles Yu divides the book in half, setting up the dramatic tension, shooting himself, and then dealing with it. ![]() While he starts the book shooting himself, it’s not until halfway through that the reader actually gets to that moment in the story. In the end, I recommend the audio book, but if you happen to have a physical copy on hand, it may benefit you to leaf through every couple of chapters. I’d probably still be calling them “section squiggle”. On the other hand, some of the book was divided up by Greek letters and hearing them pronounced was much easier than if I had come across them on my own. This playful loopy way of understanding the situation is how much of the book reads, only smarter. The two Charleses may be the same person, but that’s essentially true about all our identical selves from alternate universes.
